"What Should I Do?"
(A) Project Evaluation
& Guidance
Most authors know
what they want to write but don't know how to make publishers take notice. They're sure their book can sell,
but don't know how to address all the seemingly contradictory factors to create that sale with a publisher.
This
is where Laurie's guidance is valuable.
Laurie's evaluation before or after you start submitting your proposal or manuscript to agents and publishers
makes sure you have clearly conveyed the book's fundamental concept, and have sufficiently addressed the audience,
market, and marketing necessities a publisher requires. She then aligns this project with your own unique market position.
For example, you've completed a proposal package or manuscript and you've sent it
out to agents or publishers, and so far have received both form letters and contradictory
responses. You are at a loss of how to proceed. The form letters do not convey anything specifically
but they are telling you something about the project.
Or, you've worked out several book ideas and don't know in which order to write them --is one a stronger
lead than the other? is one more likely to sell than the other? is one worth more money than the other?
should they each be written under different author names?
These are common situations
in which writers find themselves. Laurie's guidance allows you to understand what has gone on (and why) and give
you direction and a game plan for getting back on track to move forward with better results.
Your
project is evaluated according to your goals. Once you and Laurie have talked and emailed and she understands what
you are trying to do, she then puts the pieces of the puzzle together to make sensible and practical recommendations
that help you achieve your publishing goals.

(B) Getting
Started: Step-By-Step Coaching to Write Your Book
You'll begin with a discussion (on the phone or in person) of your book
idea(s) and goals for the book(s), and at that time Laurie will go over the first steps to begin your book and make
recommendations about resource books to read, as needed. As you progress step-by-step, Laurie reads
what you’ve written and makes recommendations about your next steps, and showing you if anything you've
already done needs re-writing. She is not line-editing your book—she is working developmentally
with you on structure, content, writing style and voice, basic mechanics, and such. Laurie will recommend
freelance editors where they are needed. You and Laurie talk on the phone and exchange email during
each phase, and you will be billed after each of these steps/sessions. There is no time pressure;
you go at your own pace.
